Our Beliefs & Biblical Foundations

At The Way Community Church, our beliefs shape how we live, worship, and serve. Rooted in Scripture and centered on Jesus Christ, our Articles of Faith reflect the core doctrines that guide our ministry. Through our Where Do We Stand teaching series, we address cultural questions and seek to apply biblical truth to the world around us.

The Way Community Church has been formed as a fellowship of believers in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Our mission is to show others the way to life with Jesus. We will intentionally grow believers to become conformed, committed, and contributing followers of Him.

We believe that there is only one living God existing in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each is a distinct Person, but all of one essence and all having the same nature, perfection, and attributes, and each is worthy of precisely the same worship, confidence, and obedience.

  • Genesis 1:1-3,26
  • Matthew 3:16-17
  • John 1:1, 14
  • John 10:30, 14:26, 15:26
  • Matthew 28:19

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is coequal with the Father. He is begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, shed His blood on Calvary in our place, was buried, rose again and ascended to the Father according to the Scriptures.

  • Luke 1:26-33
  • Matthew 1:22-23
  • Isaiah 9:6

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity, co-existent with the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit is the chief agent in the regeneration of the soul, the chief convictor of sin, and the chief comforter of the believer. The Holy Spirit baptizes the believer into the body of Christ, permanently indwells him, and seals him in salvation for all eternity.

  • John 16:1-13
  • 1 Corinthians 12:13
  • Ephesians 5:18; 1:13
  • Titus 3:4,6
  • 1 John 2:20, 27

We believe people are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God's creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by sin which separates us from God.

  • Romans 3:23
  • 1 John 1:8, 10
  • Romans 5:7-9

We believe that the Bible is the inspired and only infallible Word of God. The Bible being the revealed Word of God is the ground and foundation from which all claims of truth shall be substantiated.

  • 2 Timothy 3:16-17
  • 2 Peter 1:21

We believe in the priesthood of all believers so that every Christian has direct access to God in prayer through Jesus Christ, our great High Priest, and that there is no mediator between God and man other than Jesus Christ.

  • 1 Peter 2:9-10
  • Hebrews 4:14-5:2

We believe that all who, in faith receive the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior are born again by the Holy Spirit and thus become the children of God. Salvation involves redemption, regeneration, sanctification, and glorification.

  • John 8:41-45; 17:16-22
  • Romans 5:7-11; 8:14-17; 10:9-10
  • Colossians 1:13-14
  • 1 Corinthians 6:19
  • 2 Corinthians 5:17
  • Galatians 4:6-7

We believe that salvation is not only a gift from the Lord but also is sustained by the Lord. Therefore since salvation is wholly of the Lord, apart from the works of man, we hold that the believer shall be kept by the power of God through faith unto eternal salvation.

  • Ephesians 2:8-10
  • Philippians 1:6
  • John 3:16; 10:27-29

We believe that the local church observes two ordinances—baptism and the Lord's Supper. We believe that all who have received Christ as Savior and Lord should be baptized by immersion into water. Baptism is symbolic of Christ's death, burial, and resurrection. The Lord's Supper should be observed in remembrance of Him to show forth His death for our sins until He comes again.

  • Matthew 28:18-20
  • Luke 22:14-20
  • 1 Corinthians 11:17-34

We believe that Satan was originally created a perfect being. He rebelled against God. As a result, he became depraved, the Devil and adversary of God and His people, and leader of a host of angels who fell with him. Satan has been judged and defeated at the cross and awaits his ultimate doom.

  • Ezekiel 28:14-19
  • John 10:10
  • 1 Corinthians 15:51-58

We believe people were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation through Christ. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.

  • John 3:16; 17:3
  • Ephesians 5:5
  • Romans 6:23
  • 1 Corinthians 15:24, 28
  • Revelation 20:15; 21-22

We believe that physical death involves no loss of our immaterial consciousness, that the soul of the redeemed passes immediately into the presence of Christ, and that there is a separation of soul and body until the resurrection when they will be reunited and glorified forever with the Lord.

We teach the bodily resurrection of all people—the saved to eternal life and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment.

We teach that the unsaved will appear before the Great White Throne judgment and be cast into the lake of fire, separated from God forever.

We occasionally address questions about faith and culture. These teachings help our church think biblically about topics shaping our world today.

We believe that God created marriage. Genesis records that God’s design for marriage was between one man and one woman. Therefore, we maintain that any other type of marital union is outside of the will of God.

The fallen nature of humanity resulted in the perversion of marriage in a multitude of ways; and, there are many Old Testament examples of this perversion. But the New Testament reaffirms God’s original design as the standard for marriage.

We believe that the Holy Spirit gives at least one spiritual gift to every believer. Each believer is accountable to discern, embrace, and passionately function in their unique calling.

All spiritual gifts are for the glorification of God and for the edification of the Body of Christ. We embrace all biblical spiritual gifts to reduce fear, misuse, and misunderstanding.

Spiritual gifts are to be upheld by spiritual maturity and not abused through charismatic entertainment. Therefore, we teach that ongoing obedience and surrender to the Spirit’s guidance is key to sustained effectiveness in the use of our gifts.

We believe that Jesus is sovereign over any ruler, authority, power, leader, or anything else, not only in this world, but also in the world to come.

God established order to reflect His desires for creation. Governmental authority comes from God and is accountable to Him for the good of all people.

Therefore, we are responsible to use our freedom to support God’s agenda. Christians are to be righteous citizens who respect authority, speak truth to power, and love neighbors as themselves. We are to pray for our community, state, nation, and world, and all those in leadership.

We believe that God created women in His image, Jesus died to redeem women as joint heirs of salvation, and the Holy Spirit indwells, fills, and anoints women.

The gospel is of God and therefore not gender specific; God converts women to salvation and calls women into gospel service.

We are encouraged by the testimony of Miriam, Deborah, Esther, Mary the mother of Jesus, Mary Magdalene, Priscilla, Lydia, Dorcas, and Phoebe.

We are guided by passages such as Galatians 3:27-29; Romans 16:1; Titus 2:3; 2 Timothy 1:5; and Joel 2:28, which together convey that women have been divinely chosen to exercise spiritual influence.

We believe that the triune God is the only consistent source of truth, knowledge, and intelligence. By contrast, we acknowledge the technological advancement of artificial intelligence as a useful, albeit inconsistent, resource.

The teaching of the Holy Spirit is the ultimate means of discernment and guidance for the believer’s life (John 14:26).

While we use various A.I. tools to help us in life and study, we test the information of these tools by the Word of God (1 John 4:1).

As believers, we embrace A.I. for the glory of God and advancement of the gospel. We will use A.I. without over-reliance while maintaining our commitment to diligent study (2 Timothy 2:15), relational disciple-making (Matthew 28:18-20), and corporate fellowship (Hebrews 10:25).
